Privacy policy
We don't want
your data.
Most privacy policies are 4,000 words of legalese designed to bury what's actually happening. Ours fits on one screen.
The short version
Kitchen Ratios is a bread calculator. We don't have user accounts. We don't track you between sites. Your saved recipes never leave your browser. The only data we collect is what your browser sends to any web server when you visit a page (IP address, browser type, the URL you asked for). We use that to keep the lights on.
If you ever want everything we know about you erased, hit "Clear saved recipes" in settings and clear your browser's site data for kitchenratios.com. We're erased.
What we collect (the longer version)
Server logs
Every web server in the world keeps logs of who asked it for what. Ours are no exception. The hosting provider (Hostinger) records standard access logs: IP address, requested URL, HTTP method, response code, user agent. These logs roll over and are not used for marketing.
Local storage on your device
Two things end up in your browser's localStorage for this site:
kr-theme— whether you picked dark mode. So we don't flash the wrong colors at you on the next visit.kr-recipes— recipes you saved with the Save button. Stays on your device. Never sent to us.
Both are visible if you open your browser's dev tools and inspect Application → Local Storage. You can delete them at any time. Settings has a "Clear saved recipes" button.
Analytics
We use Hostinger's built-in server-side analytics. That means we can see "people visited the ciabatta page 47 times last week" but we can't see "this specific person visited X then Y then Z." No cookies, no fingerprinting, no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel.
Advertising
We're applying to Google AdSense to show banner ads (we have to make rent somehow). Once AdSense approves us, ads will appear on the bread index, bread detail pages, and saved recipes. The ad-removing option is coming as part of a user-account feature later.
When ads are running, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies in your browser to choose which ads to show you. This is standard for any ad-supported site. You can opt out at Google's Ad Settings and at YourAdChoices — both are independent of us.
What we don't do
A short, defensible list:
- No user accounts (yet).
- No email collection (we don't have a newsletter).
- No sale of data to third parties. There's nothing to sell.
- No social-login pixels, no Facebook SDK, no LinkedIn Insights tag.
- No cross-site tracking. We literally don't have the infrastructure to.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA / human decency)
You have the right to know what we have on you. The answer is: your IP address in a rolling log file, and whatever's in your own browser's localStorage. The first you can't realistically request; the second you can see and delete yourself.
If you're in the EU/UK or California and want to make a formal data request anyway, email hello@kitchenratios.com. We'll respond within 30 days. (We expect approximately zero such requests, but the promise stands.)
Children
Kitchen Ratios is rated PG. We don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you're a parent and discover your kid has been baking ciabatta on our site, first: congratulations on the kid. Second: there's nothing to delete because we didn't keep anything.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date below and put a note on the homepage for a week. We won't sneak in surveillance after the fact.
